미국의 이라크 침공이 개시되자 시민사회단체들이 "이라크전 반대, 한국정부의 파병반대"를 위한 행동을 호소하고 있다.

여중생범대위, 한국이라크반전평화팀 등 각계 시민사회단체들은 개전 당일인 20일 저녁 7시 광화문 교보문고 앞에서 미국의 이라크 침공을 반대하고, 한국정부의 파병방침 철회를 촉구하는 촛불시위를 진행할 예정이다.

이미 이라크전 개전에 앞서 대부분의 시민사회단체에서 전쟁이 시작되는 주말 반전평화집회에 참여할 것을 호소해왔으며 반전운동에 함께하고 있는 네티즌 모임들도 주말집회 참가를 호소하고 있다.

한국이라크반전평화팀은 인터넷 게시판 (http://iraqpeace.ngotimes.net/SignUp/list.asp?bname=qb_NoWarSignBoard)에서 대국민서명을 받고 있으며, 전쟁 개시 직후 서명에 참가하는 사람들이 급증하고 있다.

△UN안정보장이사회 결의안 377조를 발동 요구 메일 보내기
미국 텍사스의 헌법권리센터 (The Center for Constitutional Rights - www.ccr-ny.org)라는 시민단체는 "미국의 전쟁을 막기 위해서 유엔안정보장이사회 결의안 377호를 발동하라"는 캠페인을 벌이고 있다. 평화동맹" (The Uniting for Peace)이라 불리는 이 절차는 "평화를 위협하는 공격"이 있음에도 유엔안보리가 거부권에 의해서 어떠한 결정도 하지 못할 때, 긴급 유엔 총회를 통해서 전쟁 중지를 명령할 수 있다는 것이다. 이 절차는 이미 역사적으로 10회 정도 사용되었으며, 주로 미국에 의해서 요청되었다.

현재 인터넷을 통해서 전세계적으로 유엔안보리 이사국 대표단들에게 결의안 377호를 발동을 요구하는 메일이 전달되고 있으며, 대표단들에게는 아래에 열거된 이메일 주소를 통해서 전달될 수 있다.

The Uniting for Peace Resolution has been used ten times since 1950. The General Assembly should vote to prohibit an invasion of Iraq and immediately send peacekeepers to station themselves in the demilitarized zone between Kuwait and Iraq. Mandatory trade sanctions on all goods and all air traffic to and from the US should be required of all members of the UN if the US were to stage an attack in violation of the General Assembly's resolution. I believe that such action would be supported by the vast majority of the citizens of all UN member nations. Please, the fate of the world is in your hands.
