The Korean nation has greeted the New Year 2007 with greater national pride and self-conceit than ever.
It is six years since the milestone of national reunification was erected at the inter-Korean summit held in Pyongyang, which opened the June 15 era of independent reunification. During the period the nation’s struggle to shape its destiny had to overcome manifold difficulties. The US imperialists persistently pursued the divide-Korea policy and intensified anti-DPRK war moves, and the pro-US warlike forces of south Korea made desperate efforts to disturb the advance of the nation toward reunification. Indeed, the nation’s aspiration for independence, peace and reunification has encountered vicious obstructive maneuvers of the separatist forces at home and abroad.
Under the acute situation, however, the Korean people’s movement has advanced dauntlessly under the banner of “By our nation itself” and the security and peace of the Korean Peninsula have been reliably maintained.
This was not merely the result of the ardent aspiration of the nation for reunification, nor by the assistance of outside forces. This vigorous trend of the nation has been secured by the invincible Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il.
It is a universal knowledge that the Songun politics is a powerful political mode which reliably defends and realizes independence of the country and nation by giving priority to the military affairs. The Korean nation, as a dignified nuclear nation, in particular, has felt more keenly that Songun is the lifeline of its independent dignity and better destiny. The great national event of October last year, which practically displayed the might of Songun, gave great pride to all the Korean nationals. Indeed, 2006 was a meaningful year when the Korean nation felt more and more the justness and invincibility of the Songun politics.
Greeting the New Year, therefore, all the Korean nationals in the north and south and aboard extend their boundless thanks and highest respects to Kim Jong Il, the sun of Songun, who leads the nation to a bright future.
Songun is an arduous way which anyone bereft of firm belief in the cause of independence, endless devotion to the people and unshakable courage cannot set out. From the time when the Songun politics was created on Mt. Paektu up to this date when it has become a worldwide trend to learn after it, the revolutionary cause of Songun has passed through an arduous and untrodden path.
After socialism collapsed in East European countries and the DPRK-US showdown appeared as a major structure of confrontation in the world politics, in particular, the Korean army and people had to defend the nation and socialism against the US maneuvers to isolate and stifle the DPRK. It was a severe and unheard-of ordeal beyond the common knowledge and experiences, indeed.
Braving through ordeals and difficulties with the pluck and will of the illustrious commander of Paektu, Kim Jong Il is now leading the cause of Songun pioneered and led by President Kim Il Sung. Kim Jong Il, who began the Songun leadership in the early 1960s and realized the Songun politics in the late 1960s, formulated the Songun politics in an overall way as the fundamental socialist political mode in the middle of the 1990s on the basis of scientific analysis of the subjective and objective requirements and conditions.
Under the banner he defended the nation and socialism from the desperate maneuvers of the US imperialists and their followers and opened a turning phase of national reunification in last years of the past century.
In the past, the Korean people, lack of the strength to defend itself, had been deprived of their sovereignty and had no place to complain even though their queen was butchered by invaders. As seen in the miserable states of Afghanistan and Iraq occupied by US troops, the tragedy of weak nations continues in different parts of the world.
But Korea today is not yesterday’s. It is not Iraq, nor Afghanistan.
The servicepersons and people of the DPRK, who take the Songun ideology created by President Kim Il Sung as their rock-firm faith, have achieved the single-minded unity around Kim Jong Il, which no other nations in the world have realized. Having realized the integral whole united as firmly as one around their party and leader as the driving force of the Songun cause and possessed the politico-ideological might more powerful than nukes and almighty military capabilities recognized by the world, they display invincibility in the showdown with the United States boasting of the world’s only superpower.
Encouraged by the proud realities created in the DPRK under the Songun politics, the south and overseas Korean people, too, are turning out on the road of patriotism in the spirit of national independence. Braving through the obstructive maneuvers of the US and other anti-reunification forces at home and abroad, the Korean nation’s movement for independent reunification vigorously advances under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and the pro-reunification patriotic forces in the north and south and abroad realize solidarity in the struggle to prevent a war and defend peace on the peninsula.
The Korean people, who had once deplored the tragic national ruin due to the lack of military power, have been armed with powerful deterrence of war today, overpowering the United States which attempted to trample down the destiny of the Korean nation with nuclear superiority.
The entire nation and progressive humankind admire the shining fruits of the Songun politics.
The Korean nation enjoys its prestige on the highest level entirely thanks to the outstanding Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il who is endowed with noble patriotic will and unbounded devotion to the human cause of independence.
Last year alone, he gave field guidance to different units and places of the country, from the very beginning to the end of the year, such as the e-library and gymnasium of Kim Chaek University of Technology, a refinery, power stations, chicken farms, a machine-tool factory, stock farms, Samjiyon town and Kanggye City. Innumerable are the roads he traversed to inspect army units in the front and servicepersons he met there.
Indeed, the banner of Songun held aloft by him is the banner of certain victory that arouses the nation to the sacred struggle for independence, peace and reunification.
Songun is a precious sword of certain victory that guarantees independent development and prosperity of the nation.
Songun defends the interests of the nation.
It secures the independence and dignity of the nation, peace and reunification of the country and supreme patriotism. The nation should cherish this truth deeper in their hearts in this year’s struggle.
The present situation demands the Korean people, whether they live in the north or south or abroad, support and follow the Songun politics with one mind and will.
With the faith that Songun is the lifeline in defending the nation and shaping its independent destiny, everybody should follow and support it, irrespective of differences in idea, political view and ism.
The struggle to support the independent, peaceful and patriotic politics is accompanied by a fierce showdown with the aggressive and treacherous forces.
The whole nation should realize cooperation in the struggle to smash the US hostile policy and war moves against the DPRK, put an end to the US occupation of south Korea and drive out all the American military bases and forces from south Korea. Struggle should be intensified in south Korea to reject the US “nuclear umbrella” and follow Songun.
Now the traitorous Grand National Party of south Korea, advocating “readiness for war” against the fellow countrymen in the north, runs amuck to scrap the June 15 joint declaration and oppose reunification. Nobody can assure that their maneuvers to rally the “neo-conservative” forces and come into power again would not lead to suspension of the June 15 era and war.
The entire nation should shatter the flunkeyist war moves of the GNP and other pro-US belligerent forces and throw them away of history.
The ever-victorious banner of Songun opens a broad way for the nation to further invigorate the movement for independent reunification.
Songun ensures independent reunification of the nation.
All the Korean nationals at home and abroad should give further impetus to the reunification movement under the banner of “By our nation itself” to score brilliant successes in the reunification movement this year.
The key to victory in the struggle for independence is the unity of the entire nation, the master of its own destiny.
All the nationals should unite in the struggle for independent reunification and anti-war peace. The pro-reunification patriotic and peace-loving forces in the north and south and abroad should strengthen solidarity and alliance and enhance the role of the June 15 National Joint Committee, a nationwide solidarity body for reunification.
Challenges and difficulties still lie on the road ahead of the nation.
But, the future of the nation is bright as the Songun politics displays its might under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il and the June 15 joint declaration, the milestone of reunification, indicates its way ahead.
Under the brilliant rays of the sun of Songun peace and reunification will certainly come on the Korean Peninsula.
Cherishing the boundless pride provided by Songun, the entire Korean nation should decorate this year as another meaningful year in carving out its destiny.
